Leadership today looks nothing like it did a decade ago—and Nick Edwards is on a mission to make sure leaders evolve with it.
As founder of My Leadership Coach, Edwards works with executives, business owners, and entrepreneurs to navigate change with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
“I’ve led through success and struggle,” he says. “Those experiences showed me that most leaders don’t fail because they lack talent—they fail because they lack clarity.”
The Road From Frustration to Focus
After years in leadership roles, Edwards grew weary of watching organizations suffer from poor communication and inconsistent development. That frustration became the foundation for My Leadership Coach.
“My pain pushed me toward my purpose,” he says. “I wanted to help people lead well and live well.”
Branding the Intangible
Unlike traditional startups, Edwards didn’t have a tangible product—he had himself.
“As a coach, you’re the brand,” he admits. “That was uncomfortable at first because it felt egotistical. But once I reframed it as serving others through my expertise, it clicked.”
The shift helped him communicate his value authentically, allowing potential clients to connect with his mission rather than his marketing.
The Leap Into Entrepreneurship
The moment of truth arrived when referrals began stacking up.
“I realized I was out of time and out of excuses,” Edwards says. “I set a date, quit my job, and went all in.”
It was a defining act of faith that turned passion into a sustainable business.
Lessons From the Journey
When mentoring new entrepreneurs, Edwards emphasizes three essentials:
- Know where you’re going. Success begins with vision.
- Start before you’re ready. Action builds momentum.
- Push through resistance. The breakthrough is usually on the other side of difficulty.
“Define your destination. Get started. Don’t stop,” he reminds.
Living a Life of Presence
Edwards rejects the idea of balancing life and work equally.
“The goal isn’t balance; it’s presence,” he says. “When I’m at work, I’m fully there. When I’m home, I’m fully there. That’s how you avoid burnout.”
His formula for staying sharp: learn daily, guard your time, and aim to add value in every interaction.
The Future of Leadership
With his upcoming book Big Dream, Small Steps and the forthcoming Leading Forward podcast, Edwards is equipping the next wave of leaders to integrate faith, purpose, and strategy.
“Great leadership isn’t about power,” he says. “It’s about stewardship—of people, purpose, and potential.”Connect with Nick Edwards:
