From IRS Agent to Taxpayer Advocate
For many Americans, a letter from the IRS signals fear. But for Pietro Canestrelli, it signals opportunity — a chance to defend, educate, and empower.
After six years working within the IRS and another decade in tax representation, Canestrelli saw how overwhelming the system could be for ordinary people. That led him and his wife Kristen — founder of America’s Tax Defender, Inc. — to co-build a company committed to helping businesses and individuals stand up to tax adversity.
“People dealing with tax problems aren’t numbers,” says Pietro. “They’re people with lives and families.”
America’s Tax Defender: Built on Compassion and Expertise
Originally operating as a solo tax professional, Pietro helped clients navigate audits and resolve back taxes one case at a time. Then four years ago, he and Kristen scaled the operation into America’s Tax Defender — a tax resolution and strategy company dedicated to providing clarity, compliance, and confidence.
Unlike traditional firms, their company is grounded in a simple but powerful belief: treat every client like family.
“We don’t just defend — we educate, advise, and prevent,” Pietro explains.
A Tragic Catalyst for Purpose
Pietro’s drive isn’t just professional — it’s personal. In 2008, he lost his brother to suicide. His brother had been struggling with tax issues at the time — a burden Pietro tried to alleviate but couldn’t.
“The IRS didn’t cause it, but they didn’t help either,” he says. “That pain changed me forever.”
Now, every case is more than a file — it’s a chance to prevent another family from enduring the same loss.
Courage and Math: The Keys to Success
When advising entrepreneurs, Pietro offers a formula as unique as it is effective:
“Courage and math,” he says. “Courage to move forward. Math to know you’re on the right path.”
It’s that blend of bold action and practical analysis that helped America’s Tax Defender grow — and helps clients achieve real results.
What’s Next: Strategy, Scale, and Stories
Looking ahead, Pietro plans to help business owners save tens of millions in taxes over the next two years through audit defense and strategic tax planning.
He’s also sharing his journey and tax philosophy in his new book, available now on Amazon.
“Helping taxpayers isn’t my job,” he says. “It’s who I am.”
