In an entertainment industry increasingly dominated by large studios, shrinking opportunities for independent creators, and mounting pressure to conform, securing meaningful distribution for an independently created series has become an increasingly rare achievement. For filmmaker and writer-director Giovannie Espiritu, however, the growing momentum behind her romantic comedy series Maid to Shine represents more than a business milestone.
It represents a philosophy.
Giovannie’s independently produced series has already screened at the Nevada Women’s Film Festival, where it earned a nomination for Best Nevada Film, and is now distributed by Viva One Plus. The project has also continued to build momentum internationally, earning Gold Winner for Best TV Show at the British Independent Film and Theater Awards and securing four honors at the Bollywood International Film Festival, including Best Director, Best Series, Best Screenwriter, and Best Actress. Most recently, Giovannie received news that the series will also be honored at the South East Asian International Film Festival in Pattaya, Thailand this December.
