Paul H. Flowers Jr. has spent much of his career asking employers to examine something easily overlooked in the complicated economics of healthcare: who benefits from the way their health plan is structured.

It is a question that has taken the founder and CEO of Superior Insurance Advisors from conversations with CEOs and CFOs to a growing national platform.

Paul recently earned recognition from Black Leaders Worldwide as one of its “2026 Men You Need To Know.” The recognition follows another milestone that carries particular significance within the employee benefits industry.

In October 2025, Paul became the first African American to earn the Validation Institute’s Fiduciary Advisor certification and one of the first ten advisers in the country to hold it.

Questioning the Economics Behind the Advice

Superior Insurance Advisors operates under a client compensated model. The firm says it does not accept compensation from insurance carriers or vendors, an arrangement intended to remove financial incentives that can complicate the traditional broker relationship.

Superior has also been independently designated a Validated Fiduciary Firm by the Validation Institute, with the designation backed by the organization’s $100,000 credibility guarantee.

“For too long, employers have funded a system built to profit carriers, not companies,” Paul said. “Becoming the first African American to earn this certification isn’t the finish line. It’s proof of the standard I’m holding the whole industry to.”

His argument is increasingly directed toward senior leadership. Employer health plans can carry fiduciary responsibilities under ERISA, making healthcare purchasing more than a human resources decision. For executives responsible for approving those plans, Paul believes documentation, transparency and careful examination of financial relationships belong in the process.

Leadership Outside the Conference Room

Paul’s emphasis on accountability has also surfaced closer to home.

Based in Gary, Indiana, he was recently featured in a press release alongside two attorneys involved in litigation concerning NIPSCO and the Gary power outage. His participation brought him into a wider discussion about the consequences the outage had for the community and the need for accountability.

That work gives another dimension to his expanding professional profile. Paul is building a national voice in healthcare while remaining engaged with issues affecting the city where he operates his business.

Recognition Follows the Work

In March 2026, Paul brought his healthcare message to the Speakpreneur event at Chicago’s Omni Hotel, appearing with Paul Getter before executives and business owners.

He had already been named to Insurance Business America’s “Hot 100” in 2024. Recognition as a charter fiduciary advisor in the 2026 Health Value Awards followed. Paul is also the bestselling author of The Hidden Healthcare Gold Mine, a keynote speaker and host of The Potpourri Place Podcast Show.

The latest “2026 Men You Need To Know” recognition adds another line to that record. More revealing, though, is the range of work now surrounding it.

From employer healthcare spending to public concerns in Gary, Paul’s message remains remarkably consistent: transparency matters most when the stakes are high and the people making decisions are entrusted with someone else’s money, health or well being.
