In the world of healthcare, innovation often looks like technology or new treatments. But for nurse practitioners Brittany Delaney and Chrissy Akins, innovation means something simpler—and more radical: listening.
That principle is the heart of Inicio Wellness, their Texas-based practice redefining how patient care is delivered.
A Mission Born From Frustration
After years in corporate clinics, Delaney and Akins knew the system could be better. “We helped build clinics for a corporation,” Delaney says. “But we knew we could build something more meaningful for ourselves and our patients.”
They launched Inicio Wellness, choosing a name that means “a new beginning”—a symbolic nod to their belief that healthcare should heal both the body and the system itself.
Building a Business Without a Blueprint
The transition from nurses to entrepreneurs wasn’t seamless. “No one teaches you how to open a clinic in nursing school,” Akins admits. “We learned by doing.”
They spent months researching compliance laws and business models, attending Chamber of Commerce events, and building relationships from scratch.

“We were literally handing out business cards door to door,” Delaney recalls. “But when you’re passionate, people can tell.”
Their persistence paid off. Word of mouth soon fueled their growth, turning what began as a telehealth venture into a thriving physical clinic.
Finding Mentorship in Unexpected Places
When searching for a supervising physician, they connected with Dr. Amir Baluch, who became a pivotal figure in their journey.
“He’s not just a physician—he’s a serial entrepreneur,” Akins says. “He showed us how to think beyond medicine, to see our clinic as a brand and a mission.”
Balancing Healing and Hustle
Running a clinic while maintaining emotional equilibrium isn’t easy. “You can’t shut off empathy,” Delaney says. “Patients are always on your mind.”
To manage stress, they’ve outsourced billing, marketing, and admin tasks, freeing up time for what matters most: patient care. They also rely on open communication with each other.
“Sometimes, it’s just about talking it out,” Akins says. “Having a partner who understands is everything.”
The Road Ahead
Now expanding into Utah, Inicio Wellness is integrating personalized medicine, including genotyping and partnerships with InsideTracker, to offer deeper insight into wellness.
Their goal isn’t to become the biggest clinic—but the most trusted.
“Healthcare isn’t just business,” says Delaney. “It’s personal. And we’re building a company that remembers that.”
